Known as the 'spicy cure of the East' , this root-forming plant is used not only as a spice in a variety of dishes, but also for medicinal purposes and in the cosmetic and medicinal industries. This root also has a number of health benefits, including anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

Ginger has been known and used in traditional medicine and cooking for thousands of years. It is considered to be one of the oldest spices, and its origin is associated with the regions of India and China. Ginger was also popular in ancient Egypt and Rome, where it was used to enhance the taste of foods and beverages.

  • VitaminsA: Ginger contains vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin B6 and folic acid.
  • MineralsA: This root contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium.
  • FibresA: Ginger contains dietary fiber that supports healthy digestive function.

Heat the water to boiling. Add the grated ginger to the boiling water. Reduce the heat and boil the tea for about 5-10 minutes. Strain and sweeten with honey and lemon juice, if desired.

Ginger juice

Ingredients:

1 large ginger root

1 lemon

1 tbsp honey

4 cups of water

Preparation:

Use a grater to grate the ginger and lemon zest. Combine the grated ginger, grated lemon zest, honey and water in a blender. Blend the mixture until it becomes homogeneous. Strain the juice and serve over ice.

Curry with ginger and turmeric

Ingredients:

2 garlic cloves, chopped

1 tbsp grated ginger

1 tsp turmeric

1 tsp cumin

1 tsp curry spice

400 grams of chicken, cut into cubes

1 large tomato, chopped

1 cup coconut milk

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh coriander for serving (optional)

Preparation:

Heat some oil in a pan and add the garlic, ginger and spices. Fry them for 1-2 minutes. Add the chicken and fry until golden. Add the tomatoes and coconut milk, and bring to a boil.Reduce the heat and simmer for about 20 minutes, until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve with fresh coriander.

  • Reception of medicinesA: Ginger may interact with certain medications, including anticoagulants, heart disease medications, and antidepressants. If you are taking such medications, consult a doctor before increasing your ginger consumption.
